Introduction and Project Background

It has been a considerable time since the last update, and several personal circumstances have contributed to this lapse. During this period, a new sense of determination and focus has emerged to continue the work on the Purple Heart.

The Purple Heart, an esteemed military decoration awarded to U.S. servicemembers wounded or killed in action, holds a high bar of importance. The goal is to produce a representation that embodies the respect and recognition these courageous individuals deserve.

The process of creating a custom print involves modeling and attention to detail. The renewed focus on this adventure highlights a commitment to advancing both technical skills and personal passion, ensuring the final product serves as a fitting tribute.

As we journey through the stages of this 3D printing project, we will explore the challenges and achievements encountered along the way. Each update aims to provide insights into the creative process. By sharing this experience, we hope to gain a better understanding for both the art of 3D printing and the timeless courage symbolized by the Purple Heart.

The Progress Made So Far on Purple Heart

The Purple Heart project has been a fascinating and enlightening experience. The initial phase involved a search on Thingiverse to locate the essential components for the custom print. (a heart, a bust of George Washington, and fig leaves.) After downloading these parts, the next step required the use of Blender, an invaluable free 3D design tool. Blender served as the platform to import and assemble the individual parts into the design.

Challenges Thus Far with Purple Heart Design

Throughout this project, several challenges surfaced, the most aggravating being the correct sizing of each part. This issue highlighted the importance of research, time management and understanding all the settings of Blender.

Constructive feedback from my brother has been invaluable in refining the process. His suggestions on the aesthetic balance have guided my adjustments, ensuring the project’s alignment with the envisioned outcome. His ongoing input has also pointed out the importance of a thorough approach, particularly in blending creative elements with the overall design, enhancing the custom print’s visual appeal.

Despite the obstacles, the experience has been positive. Encouraging both skill development and a deeper understanding for the 3D printing process.

Next Steps

The Purple Heart 3D Printing Project is progressing well, yet crucial finishing touches remain. One of the primary tasks ahead is modifying the size of the Purple Heart to match the exact dimensions of the original medal.

Color

Once the size is mastered, we will focus on the correct color representation of the medal. Printing the Purple Heart in its distinct colors is key to its authenticity. At this stage, we’ll be using PLA+ filaments for our Bambu 3D printer to ensure color accuracy. The primary color, royal purple, symbolizes the bravery and sacrifice associated with the medal.

In addition to the task for finding the right colors, attention to the details is also needed.

Our plans also include thorough testing of the printed model to ensure it withstands various conditions, from handling to environmental wear.

Lastly, seeking feedback from my brother will guide our progress.

Conclusion and Invitation to Follow Along

As we end our deep dive into the Purple Heart 3D Printing Project, it has truly been great learning experience. Each phase of the process allowed us to explore new techniques and expand our understanding of 3D printing technology.

Throughout the project, we aimed to demonstrate how even those new to the world of 3D printing can achieve amazing results.
